During the years, Chicago had an amazing architecture with impressive buildings in a variety of styles by many important architects. First modern skyscrapers appeared here in the end of the 19th century. And them keep coming until now when Chicago number 1,209 completed high-rises, 73 of which stand taller than 168 meters.

More than that, here was the tallest building in the world until 1998 (when it was dethroned by by the Petronas Towers  (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia): The Willis Tower. It still holds the “US tallest building” title (with 442 meters). Also, another three buildings of top ten tallest buildings in United States are located here in Chicago.

With such a density of tall building, Chicago is an attraction for any skyscrapers lover, and this is why there are  a lots of visionary who are trying to imagine how the city will be in the future. We added some of this visions below (some are based by rejected or on hold proposals because of the crisis, and some are based just on imagination). Year by year Chicago is expected to offer an unique skyline, completed with new and futuristic skyscrapers.

Let’s see first a video compilation with future Chicago skyscrapers:

    Sir/Madam:

I am pleased as a life long “Chicagoan in Exile” that Chicago is making itself &proving itself to be at the forefront of The “Architectural Imagination. It is once again the laboratory that has distinguished since the rebuilding efforts of the Great Chicago Fire of 1870. It is once again in the tradition of Burnham, Adler & Sullivan, MIES and others that was evoked by “Make No Little Plans. It is a Texas size leap of Imagination that created these suggested plans.

    Thanks!!!
